Peru missed the boat on coffee and the memo on heat...
I was spoiled in Samara. Just about 1.5mts out side of CREARS office-library there is a coffee machine.. That means hot coffee at alllll hours. Okay, sometimes its a little burnt-ish.. but its there and I love it. Here in Peru- its not like that. There is no water cooler in office buildings, nor coffee.. And Im jonesing.. Plus... they drink lots of tea.. I like tea... but I prefer coffee...
So as I wait for my 20+ hour bus ride I get a coffee for a couple of Nuevos Soles (s/.) The rate of exchange changes all the time like pesos or colones, but its about 2.7 S/. to the US Dollar... anyway.. as I said, the coffee could be better, and I am almost positive with was made with nestle instant... I guess thats why im going to COLOMBIA.. Peru has great food and great culture.. and coffee just took the back burner..
Okay. Im on my way to Cusco. I have no idea what to expect.. just that its the heart of the Inca culture and I plan to visit Machu Picchu... I will be there 10days and well see what comes my way.. But thus far, everyone says the 1st day I have to adjust to the altitude...
But boy do I love traveling... Sandra helped me get the tickets and arrange for a homestay in Cusco, so now I just sit back and wait. When everything is in order I can people watch and wait for the bus. For whatever reason I like to check out the peeps and I always keep my eyes out for a a familiar face.. This world is WAY smaller then we realize and you just never know who your going to run into.. but thus far.. I havent seen anyone I know.. At least not yet.
Okay.. I embark on the 20+ hr bus ride.. It really went realitively well. But two minor comments. One- to the a-holes to my left. You guys need to have a little more respect. I know its not summercamp and we're not 12, but seriously when the bus turns off the lights and the movies after 9pm you should catch the drift... But no.. you proceeded to play music from your cellphone- WHICH NEVER SOUNDS GOOD- at max volume- from those whiny speakers.. and laugh and talk in normal speaking voices until 12am.. NOT COOL! I dont know about anyone else, but I was about to freak out.. And just when I was at the end of my rope, you were spared and commonsense returned to you and you turned it off and stopped talking.. but really fellas, yall were rude. Second comment to the European couple... The bus with filled. The MAJORITY of people were clearly spanish speakers... and you asked the bus assistant if they would play the movie in ENGLISH? You must have been joking.. we are in PERU where the national lanuage is SPANISH then problably Quechua.... anyway.. you cracked me up, and I was glad the assistant pointed out to you that the bus spoke spanish and you would just have to read the subtitles...
Other then not really sleeping I had a fine bus ride... only feeling nausa once.. then I ate and felt better. I think Im one of the few people that feels car sick and eating helps... Lucky me I guess... Well luck me for knowing this anyway...
Okay 11-2-11
-Its cold and rainy in Cusco. Carolina, this sweet 72 yro grandma picks me up at the bus station. She is ful of energy and wonderful. All I want it to sleep and wake up, have a hot shower...
11.3.11- Looks like the hot shower is kinda out of the question... I understand that in the US most people have heat.. its pretty standard.. but I just dont understand how people can live in a place like Cusco- where its general very temperate and not have heat in the house.. or at least start up a fire... oh and no hot water. They have one of those funny little electrical appliances that go on the end of the shower head. You have to turn the shower on and wait for the water to swirl around and then "supuestamente" come out hot.. Well it doesnt. I get a trickly of hot water.. seriously, not even a constant stream.. its a trickle. But I gotta bath, so I get in.. frick its cold.. It wouldnt be soo bad but the house is old and freezing, so Im just killing myself in the shower.. lets make this quick.... Then I start to feel the charge. The water is charged. Obivisouly its touching a hot plate and then my head. Like most things in these countries where the general pop. is about 5ft tall... I hit my head on things... well the most dangerous time I find is in this shower. I seriously get electrical charges running down my fingers and arms when I go to risen the shampoo out of my hair. I believe this is due to my close proximity to the flow and that apparatus... SO Im cold... mejor dicho... FROZEN and electricuted.... I should be a type of Pokemon... Id be indestructible!
