Incan Dunkin Donunts & the Incatec

After my journey to the top of Pachatata, and after the wonderful sunset, it was really cooling off and the the "coffee shop" was getting warmed up.  About 100mts from the top of Pachatata, there is a little coffee, hotcoco and donut place.  Okay, when I say place dont think roof, nor "real" floor.  But there is a break in the stone wall, a pinic table and a little bit room with a fire.  There you can get two fried bread donuts, with a swirl of chocolate and a coffee or hot coco.. Both for about 5 s/. .. about 2$  Not tooo shabby.  I obt for the hot coco because.. well the coffee is instant.  The old man and the old lady making the donuts and such are sweet. and they got a good little business up here on Pachatata.  Once I get my fill I continue the descent.

What a beautiful day! What a Beautiful experience.  Im in awe. I walk down with the Coloradian family and I talk to the mother about her family, her job, her past.. I was really missing some gringo contact, and I didnt realize it until then.  OKAY My WISCONSINITE run in counts, but I only had about 5 mins with them.. where as I was experiencing things with this Rocky Mtners!  We part ways when my little "bro" finds me and says he'll lead me home.  But before we part, we agree to see each other are the Party.. thats right, there is a party tonight on Amantani!

I follow my host brother Brian to the house and there dinner is ready! YUM more Quinua soup, choclo y mint tea.  This just warms ya up so much! No wonder its what they eat! Soup and tea, fine with me.  After dinner Mom says she has to go to a meeting, but she will be back to help us get ready for the party... around 9pm.  So I decide to play cards with Brian, and I show him some tricks that I know.. then we play memory.  In the middle of playing, and listening to music.. he gets up and closes the windows... I say.. why ya doing that.. (not so much I wanted the windows open, but the sudden urgency suprised me)... and he looks at me and says something in his lanuage. and I say what? Obiviously I just got spanish under my belt, not Quechau NOR Aymara.. and he says in spanish "espíritus"... Spirits... I instanstly want to know more, but we are in my room, and its dark, and I really want to be able to get some sleep, so I just ask him what exactly he means.  And he told me that sometimes the spirits of the island come and bother the people.  The look in the windows or however... but he didnt want anythingn bothering me. Sweet little bugger, nor I just have to erase that concept from my brain.. Wheres Momma? I wanna go to the party!

Around 915 the german womens says, JOOOHANNNAH.... you ready? I didnt really know what she was talking about, but I open my door and there she is in the typical outfit, all Incanned up.. I say, well no, I havent gotten my outfit yet. SO we wait for momma.  Around 930 there is a hussle and a bussle and my Incan mommy busts into my room, doesnt say anything, throws a white wool blouse with beautiful embroidery over my head, hands me a THICK bright blue shirt, I put it on, as soon as its up she is wrapping a COLORFUL wool belt around my waist. this holds the "one size fits all" items to me, she throws me a scarf and we are on our way to the Inca-tec-  The Incan dancehall.. the little party on Amantani.

Now I didnt hear this, but I guess poppa was a little mad at momma because she was late to get us ready and we didnt get to the party until about 945.. Same difference to me, but he was a little turbbed.  Anyway. The party is held in a one room building.  About the size of a doublewide trailer, no rooms, and adobe walls.  when we arrive, I say hi to my tour mates and german buy me a BEER! A big ol CUSQUEÑA... there was no little one, and even tho I did feel like drinking, after dancing in all this wool one needs something to drink! There are chairs around the whole outside, and there are a bunch of people that I didnt even know were onthe island.  On the right side there is a typical Andean band ROCKIN out! I am seated for about 2minutes when I am pulled to the dance floor.  I dont know who I was dancing with but all is well! The music is happy and the dance moves are simple.  Hops and jumps, meanwhile holding hands and moving them to and fro.  Then we do a snake, chain, "hold hands in a chain and run around the room"... UFF its hot in this outfit.  And now I understand why poppa wanted to get to the party sooner.. Everyone is tired and ready to leave my 1015pm.. SO i stick around with this English couple, watch everyone leave, and I finish my brew and head up.

Angel (guide) walks me up the hill and I make it to my place safe and sound.  I do the basics before bed, and when I go to shut my door, I can seem to lock it, thus it doesnt completely close.. Thanks to Brian, the idea of something "happening" to me pops in to my head, and well, I say to myself.. what happens happens, there isnt much I can do about it.. I journlize and head to bed... Off to dreamland...
