fast forward
Oh Geez! Today is Dec. 21st and Im sooo far behind on this blog- I really liked going day by day, but those days are over- it's tooo much to try to do, but I will fill ya in on the big things, or the little things- I will fill you in on whatever I feel is important, interesting, or if I just wanna vent. This is my blog remember.
SO Where was I.....
Nov- Okay, we left Jaco- thank god and we headed back to Heredia. There were spent one night and then the Noons and I headed to San Jose- la Capital! There we stayed at Tranquilo Backpackers- a nice hostel that has breakfast included- Pancakes and fruit. Its right downtown and pretty easy access to anything one would need. We stayed in a room that had sooo much writing on the walls- I kinda felt like we were in a bathroom- oh ya and the room was Number 2.5... WTF Tranquilo Backpackers- ya couldn't think of the number that came after 2, and before 4? But I maybe thats just me. ANYWAY-
In San Jose Hayley and I went to the National Museum, a Sports Bar to watch the Packer game, we went riverrafting(more below), we walked around, emailed family and friends, locked the keys in the car (mea culpa), talked to people from all over the world- mostly Germans, but hostels host a number of nationalities at any given moment, got hassassed by this scary man from Nebraska- CREEEEE-PPPPY. Word on the street was that he came down to Costa for some fine dental work and has been creeping at this hostel for about 2-3mons. I felt sorry for the people that stayed in the dorm style rooms with him. It made me glad Hayley and I had our little bathroom writing room. Oh and on that note, if you wondering what we left- We drew the outline of the Apostle Islands- a rough shetch. I would have liked to done a better job, but I had to stand on the bed to get to the jail cell window to stand on the ledge with one foot meanwhile reaching upwards to draw the penisula and the islands- oh yeah, and one hand was holding on to the windows cross bars/security bars all the while, so lets just say, I did what I could- We signed it and all is well! Our mark was left on the Tranquilo Walls.- seriously there was so much writing on the walls, I felt like everytime I looked I saw something new, it was almost like people were coming in when we were gone and writing things.... pretty interesting.
So Hayley and I went White Water Rafting! HOW COOL! Oh guide Christian was amazing- I wish I was rich, because I would have liked to tip him more, but after the trip we went out for some drinks, so I think that covers it- Hayley and I are the tip! :) Anyway- the trip down the river was great! It was Hayley and I in the front and a Brazilian guy behind me and a German behind Hayley- I think for a group of beginners we did quite alright, but like I said- Christian did great. When we were out and about he also told us that we has lead tours for Don Trumps Daughter, David Hasselhoff, and Mago de Oz (spanish rock group). Pretty Slick. Anyway- there are photos of the adventure on the Facebook if your interested....
SO the Noons left Costa Rica on the 10th of November- sad. But a great trip was had and other then depressing Jaco- I don't think we have anything to complain about-- I just wish she could see how nice Playa Samara truly is.
Anyway- she left on a wednesday- and I went to Heredia to catch up with some people. I had to return the car on the 11th so on the night of the tenth, Hanzel had one last mountain cruise- Some friends and I went up into the mountains, here Volcan Paos- a LIVING Volcano- unlike Barva- the deadiest Volcan in Costa Rica- hahaha. There we spent the night in a really cute cabin, but boy was it cold- lots of fog and it was cold, thats really all I need to say- Costa Rica has beach, plains, swamps, mangroves and cold mountain regions... It just doesn't have snow. Anyway, we had a good time, but I learned not to tell jokes in spanish, unless you really know and feel comfortable with the people around you. Lets just say- lesson learned.
On the 11th I went to return the car- and before hand I had to fill up the tank with a little more gas- you know how rental car places are.. and well I ran into a little problemo. Backround info- The tank was only missing about a quarter. The tank would fill with 17mil (about 33$)... So I only wanted to put in about 6$ because I just had to return the car with 7/8 full. SO I wanted to put 3mil in the car. SO I pull up, they guy is standing there- news flash for those that don't know... South of the EEUU (USA) gas stations still have attendants and they pump the gas- most of the time the program how much you want and the machine does the rest- Okay so I tell the guy, 3mil de regular, and he just tells me to move the car up a little closer. He didn't ask me to repeat, he just said ok. SO I am waiting and watching, and I am trying to see where the gas is coming from, but I can't really so I just wait. and wait. Finally the guy comes back says, "algo mas" (anything else), y I say no and I hand him a bill for 10mil (about 20$). SO I am waiting for my
change.... 7mil. He doesn´t come back. ANd I am waiting and waiting, I become impatient because I have to return the car by 4 and I don´t want any problems with that... So I stick my head out the window and
asked the guy, "Donde esta mi cambio!?" (Wheres my change?) and El mi dijo, "cual cambio?" He says, you told me to put in 10mil. And I said "NoNOnonono! it´s impossible, I didnt want to put that much in, I said 3mil". He said, "oh well I heard wrong", and I said, okay, so what? Wheres my change? There is NO WAY you could have filled the tank with 10mil, thats tooo much, there is no way there would have even been enough space in the tank (the tanks fills up with 17mil), so wheres my change, of 10mil is about
20$, they guy was trying to rob me! 14$ thats a lot, and I could just tell he was lying, he didnt even seem to care! I was pissed, I didnt even know what to do, so I left, I am pissed and sad and just feeling really bad about my spanish and that I am women, and that people are going to take advantage of me... so I went to return the car- crying like a dumby... But a guy there was real nice and went with me to the gas station and helped me get a little more money back, the guy kept 4$ but getting 10$ back vs NOTHIN' is a good thing. SO after that, and the joke insident, I was really really ready to get to Playa Samara. or go home- I was tired and worn out- Hayley and I had some really busy weeks together, and I was ready to chill.
So I get to the bus station on the 12th around 11am- for the 12pm bus and great, no more seats available. SO tengo que ir de pie- on foot- standing, for 6hours. FANTASTIC.... But Im going to the beach, Im going to the beach, Im going to the beach. Which is worth it, so I get the ticket and wait. And actually I make my way on to the bus and there is a handicap zone, that doesn't have a handicap person in it, so I ask the young guy near the spot if I can stand there too, and he smiles and says yes. But while I am adjusting, this women and here two kids come in and take up the floor space in the handicap zone. This was the perfect spot because without that women then I would have been able to stand, and sit without any problem, but now Momma goose and here little ones have set up shop and they are spralled out- which I guess is okay. I didn't really need that much room, but now i have to be careful where I place me feet because I didn't wanna wake up anyone because I stepped on there fingers or something... SO 4 hours in we are about half way there. It took a while to get out of Chepe (San Jose) but after that we started to make good time. SO we stop at a roads soda-rest- bathroom area, and everyone gets out. I meet some young guys that tell me that I I should really check out Nicoya this weekend for the Pica Lena Festival- its an old traditional that is now basically just a reason to party, but people still go into the woods and pick up firewood- wood that is good for making a fire. I didn't go, but it sounded like a cool thing to check out. Maybe next year :)
Anyway, the rest of the bus ride goes just fine. And actually a nice senora offers me her seat, so I get to sleep alittle. Along the way the bus keeps dropping people off at different locations, and I am getting anxious to get to Samara. I don't really know where I am going, but I am sure that I can ask anyone where to go and they will help me. But its almost 530 and the sun has already set- UGH I can't getting to new places in the dark- it's like waking up on the wrong side of the bed. But the bus rolls into town right around 6pm. I get my bag and begin my journey- walking down the small main street of Samara...
