lluvia en 'south mellen'

11/1 (continued)- So we hit the road after playa Avellana- jeez I hope the rain stops.  I really don't mind rain, but driving in the rain is a grag.  But its the nooners birthday so energy is up! Now I don't know if you now about Costa Rica, but the roads.... suck.  Well we could have left Tamarindo and headed all the way to the other side of the penisula to get to a nice road, but that would have been a little out of the way, and since Hanzel is 4x4- or wants to be 4x4 we decide to take the scenic route along the ocean- atleast in theory.

Okay the roads are long and widing, but the scenery is excellent and beautiful and if the bummpyness doesn't bother you then its a okay, and actually crossing the rivers in Hanzel is quite the little adventure!  Nice crossing rivers.  This is okay for some of the little ones, but with the rain these babies are starting to rise and they start to go pretty fast.  There was one that I remember, K walked half way through, because it was pretty wide, and he gave the signal to GO. DALE! Well I wish he would have walked a little further because... only in the last couple meters the river REALLY picked up speed and i swear I only felt Hanzels little back feet kicking at the stones in the river- yes we were basically floating, yes we could have drifted down stream and yes I believe that we could have flipped, but thankfully Hanzel got ground and made it to the bank! UFF! Oh and YES Hayley was filming! Sweet!

So after several more rivers and things of that 'nature' (no pun intended) we get to Samara.  Its pouring. Its dark.  We stop at the first bar we see and get a drinky! Its Hayleys Birthday! We hang there, she gets a free shot, then we find the nearest and cheapest hotel- La Ancha- $10.. okay do able.  Then we head to Lagarto for dinner- Couple of words- lots of rain, flooded roads- Opening night (of the season)- no one at the resturant- DELICIOUS FOOD! Holy COW! I have the churrasco- Costa Rica for yum, I mean Filet Mingon- actually I dont know what it is, but it was only $15 and WONDERFUL- The best place in town- when you come visit- take me out to eat there... hehe

So after dinner and dessert and a bottle of wine we head to the neighboring bar- OLAS- this place is supposed to be happening... but again- no one is there. Deadsville- okay, it's a monday, okay its off season, but really- at this point Im kinda buggin about the fact that Im going to be living here, but I try to keep my cool and no worry about it too much.

After a round of chelas (cold ones, brew, beer etc) we head back to the hotel- Oh and a little CR tipbit- There are basically two CR beers that have the markey Imperial and Pilsen- both blonds, hoppy blonds, and they basically taste the same, both $2.  Really the only difference is that Imperial has a lil less booze and is therefore a little smoother... but basically once they are heated up - and even a little- they are little warm soup- ASCO caldo de chelas.... actually I like beer cheese soup- pero no hay nada que ver con ese caldo....

So we are a bunch of boring old people and we decide to go back to the hotel.  K decides to make a fire- but its raining.  He is CONVINCED that he can get it burning.  Hayley and I, being girls from Wisco know how to make a fire, and we believe that his 'fire building' techniques BLOWS, so we try to tell him this but he really takes nothing into consideration.  So Hayley starts just moving the pieces- REMEMBER they DON'T speak the same language, and either in patienct enough to try (Sorry Noons, but you know its true) and this causes a problem, K starts moving them back, and then hayley is taking apart his 'fire'... Really the only thing that was buring was this stuff called Chispa- basically a white peutroleum based flaky caulk stuff that you put in a fire to get it started, thus chispa=spark.  I can't stand translating this ridiculous situation and I don't know WHY K won't just adapt his fire anyway- it's raining, either one is going to work so lets just work together.  So finally I go right up to Ks face- remember its Hayleys Birthday, and well up to this point the best thing has been dinner so he could have atleast let her do it for the sake of it, so I says to the guy "Kenneth! Eso un F#$King FUEGO!" hahahah- he didn't laugh then, but since- like the next morning its been a little inside joke.  I did declare that next time on the beach, we were going to have a fire contest... but that didn't happen because the next 5 days HURRACAN TOMAS CAME TO TOWN! UGH!
