I Love COLOMBIA

OK- I think I have written enough about PERU- I had amazing time there, but basically the last ten days there I hung out in LIMA- A very clean city- at least where I was- Miraflores y San Isidro - mas o menos. I walked basically everywhere as to not take a cab- this got a lot of attention from cabbies. I smoked a pack of lucky strikes- less then a dollar! Actually I dont smoke, but I was bored-- I know, but gimme a break! Im 24 and I can do that.  Okay so Im walking the street of LIMA and smoking and it still doesn't stop the cat calling- ugh! Seriously some of the worst- old men, young men, security guards, business men - etc. WHAT ELSE... went down the coast and saw where the rich limeanos live - a coupld weeks a year. Private Beach communities and we huge difference between the haves and the have nots. okay- then I left of COLOMBIA!

COLOMBIA- Bogota- arrive around 8pm- I get my bag real quick and Im actually a little nervous because I dont see my friends. WELL Im not too nervous- but honestly, a little.  But after a waiting a while and interrumpting the line to get a secure taxi- I decided to leave the confinds of the airport exit and look for my homies- and as soon as I do I see Rafa and this friend Felipe! WHAT a relief! Oh but Im sooo happy to see them and to be with people who are my age.  Not that I didn't throughly enjoy my time with G-mama Carolina in Cusco, but I was ready for some peer time!

So they tell me how Bogota is chaotic- "que chaos!" and we head out- Im not to hungry- really Im just buzzing having actually landed in COLOMBIA! Seriously- ever since I starting learning spanish (fall 2006) I fell in love with Colombia- SO I had never been there, but I had this romantic notion in my head- the people- the food- the music "AAaay Homb'e!"- the accent- the mountains- the history--- I just KNEW I had to go. I didnt know when, but on March 8th- I arrived!

We head out- I dont know where we are going, but the guys say they are taking me to a overlook of the city- and this place isn't a tourist spot. I was prolly that only gringa that had been there (that night anyway).. Its a winding road up the side of a mountain- Bogota is fresco- not cold by Wisconsin winter/spring standards- but cold compared to Lima. SO there are cars parked at the overlook- and lots of young people drinking outside of their cars- chatting and listening to music. There are people that sell drinks too.. Hot tea with agruadiente (colombian licor- taste like licorice)- we decided to go to the mini restuarant- and get some arepas and tea drink- It might not warm the soul- but it def. warms up the body. And what a view!

Bogota is a city of around 10 MILLION PEOPLE! More then double the population of Costa Rica (and Wisconsin)- and all in ONE city! So we take in the view, and I must admit- after that drink I was feeling the trip- so we head to Felipes house. In Bogota- but not the center part.  The plan for the following days is to check out the Museums, night life and then travel a bit! I cannot wait!
